(show time: June 20 - July2, 2009)
Harvest Degree Show, Macao Polytechnic Institute

My final year project of BA Multimedia
Design in School of Arts, Macao Polytechnic Institute.

This project is an interactive design which consists of two parts -
Part1 (To Know) and Part2 (To Appreciate). It tries to give an understanding of the transformation of Chinese characters and the reasons why there is a contradiction between Traditional and Simplified Chinese through interactive
game approach.

DOCUMENTATION

Part1 (To Know)
To Know is an interactive design game that demonstrates the transformation of Chinese characters through an interactive Flash game.

2 parts in the game - 1) Hover on characters to see the transformation; 2) interaction between characters.

User can interact among characters by dragging around without being told any formulas that works. i.e. If any mankind characters meets vehicle type, they will take the vehicles and run away; If the animals are dragged to fire, they will be burnt; If the plants interacts with animals, the latter will be fed and become bigger and bigger scale etc.

For what I have observed in the show, users are excited and curious to explore the possibilities of how many combinations of dragging could lead to interaction. One of my most favourable moments is that a kid guest have fed the chicken 100 times bigger than it should be (You can see this captured in the Documenation video above).

Part2 (To Appreciate)

To Appreciate is an interactive installation featuring projection and Infrared emit-pen and receiver. Due to the limitation of  the space, the projection in the show could only be in a small scale.

There is always a wall between Traditional & Simplified Chinese. If you are willing to learn what the true beauty is, you may find the wall actually thin and even invisible.
